Gallery - Oyster Restoration
2013

In 2013, ten million oysters were planted in the St. Mary's River oyster sanctuary (1/2 million from the MGO program). The Oyster Nursery Setting Facility accounted for the majority of the oysters planted in that year as staff and volunteers (who helped bag 1600 shell bags) completed 8 rounds in the nursery tank, introducing 2.5 million oyster larvae to the tank each week.
As part of the Reef Project 420 reef balls were built during the summer of 2013 at Carruth & Son's, Inc. by SMRWA staff and countless volunteers. Throughout the remainder of the 2013 fiscal year, fourteen reef mounds were built in the St. Mary's River (two by volunteers and twelve by contractors) with reef balls, oyster shell, and donated concrete rubble.
