We’ve hosted three reef balls at Greenwell fishing camp, and just last week we built 12 reef balls with 60 sixth graders from the Chesapeake Public School. Each group learned about oysters, why they are so important to the Chesapeake Bay, and how reef balls provide vertical structures that help oysters grow.
The kid’s passion and enthusiasm is so contagious. One of our favorite moments was an unprompted “oysters, oysters, oysters” chant by the kids at Greenwell Fishing Camp.
Many thanks to our funders who make this work possible including the Southern Maryland Recreational Fishing Organization, Chaney Enterprises, and St. Mary’s County, and our volunteers for always showing up!
