October 26, 2024, 2 pm to 4 pm
Join the St. Mary’s River Watershed Association for a Mushroom Log Inoculation Workshop on Saturday, October 26, from 2:00- 4:00 PM at the Kate Chandler Campus Community Farm. This event is free with a suggested donation of $30 for those that are able.
Come learn how to inoculate your own edible mushrooms on logs, a convenient way to grow mushrooms in your backyard, in a forest, or on your farm. With a one-time inoculation, your log can produce mushrooms for up to 3-5 years!
All participants will take home their own mushroom log and learn the basics of log cultivation, the tools of the trade, and how to source ideal logs.
The workshop will offer hands-on guidance and practice inoculating Shiitake and other varieties so you can do it yourself. Come explore a new skill, and gain hands-on experience in mushroom cultivation.
WHAT TO BRING/NOT BRING:
Children over the age of 12 are welcome to participate but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. No pets, please. Wear clothes and closed-toed shoes that can get dirty. The workshop is outdoors, so be prepared for the elements. While we will have some pairs of gloves on site, bring your own work/garden gloves if you have them.
Donations can be made through the SMRWA website (www.smrwa.org) or by mailing a check to PO Box 94, St. Mary’s City, MD 20686.
