5th Annual St. Mary's River Clean Up 9:00 am until noon Saturday April 6, 2013
Great Mills Canoe & Kayak Launch
- Bring your own kayak, paddle, and life jacket and meet up at the Great Mills Canoe and Kayak Launch. The paddle will run from the launchto the end of Adkins Road. We will supply work gloves and trash bags. This volunteer opportunity is suitable for ages 9 and up. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Fracking & LNG Export - Discussion & Public Meeting 5:30pm Monday, February 25, 2013 at St. Mary's Hall, St. Mary's College of Maryland
- How will fracking (the extraction of natural gas and oil through hydraulic fracturing of bedrock) and export of liquid natural gas affect our local waterways, our drinking water, and our pocketbooks? Join us for a panel discussion with experts who will provide an overview of the process and speak to environmental concerns and energy costs. This moderated discussion will feature speakers from the American Petroleum Institute, the Lower Susquehanna Riverkeeper, and Sierra Club Legal Team. Sponsored by the St. Mary's River Watershed Association, the Center for the Study of Democracy, St. Mary's College of Maryland, the League of Women Voters of St. Mary's County, the Natural Science and Mathematics Colloquium, and the Patuxent Riverkeeper. Ribbon Cutting and Tour - Innovative Model Home Thursday, Jan 24, 2012 - 1:00 at the Elizabeth Hills Model Home on Indian Bridge Road 1/2 mile north of Rte.5
- The St. Mary’s River Watershed Association is partnering with two developers, Stanley Martin Homes Wildewood and Marrick Homes, to bring innovative low impact development practices to fruition at model homes in order to study buyer attitudes and perceptions and foster marketability. Win-win partnerships are the foundation of the Association’s success and we are delighted to be working with these two very successful and reputable home builders. Please join us for a discussion and tour of the practices and share your concerns and experiences in marketing new stormwater features and/or in developing sustainable homesteads. Program will begin promptly at 1 pm - refreshements provided. Free Event - Support the newest 5-acre oyster restoration project with your friends and family and support the launch of the first ever three-dimensional oyster reef in the St. Mary's River.
